Hotel furniture in Mallorca: who actually makes it on the island

First, what we are, so nobody wastes an afternoon: Tapicero Mallorca is an upholstery workshop, not a furniture manufacturer. We do not sell from a catalogue and we do not deliver turnkey FF&E packages. We wrote this guide because the same call keeps reaching us — a hotel or a restaurant hunting for furniture and unsure who to call on the island — and because in about half of those calls, once we look at the actual pieces, the purchase was not necessary.

Here is who does what in Mallorca, what each option really costs you in time, and how to tell a factory job from a workshop job.

Three different businesses that all call themselves the same thing

Search for hotel furniture in Mallorca and you get companies doing very different work. The difference is not marketing. It changes the lead time, the price and, above all, who answers the phone when something arrives damaged.

The manufacturer with a workshop on the island. Produces here, in its own carpentry shop. You can walk in and see the work in progress, things get corrected as they go, and a broken piece is remade without opening an international claim. It is the most responsive option and not always the most expensive one.

The FF&E agent. Has an office in Palma but does not manufacture here: it buys from factories in Asia or Eastern Europe and assembles on site with local crews. Very competitive pricing and a single point of contact for everything from the chair to the lamp to the tableware. In exchange, your calendar depends on a chain that starts thousands of kilometres away.

The mainland manufacturer with a commercial presence. Makes the furniture in mainland Spain and ships to the island. It is the usual route for outdoor furniture, where the catalogue matters more than the bespoke piece. Every delivery and every replacement carries sea freight on top.

Who is who in Mallorca

This is not a ranking and not an exhaustive list, and nobody pays to be on it or to be left off. It is what we could verify on each company's own website in August 2026. If your company is described wrongly or is missing, write to us and we will fix it the same day.

There are more, certainly. The island also has hospitality furniture dealers and interior design studios that run the whole project and subcontract each trade, which is the usual format on larger refurbishments.

Four questions that save the season

Whichever of the three you work with, these four questions, asked before signing, separate a calm project from one that eats your opening date:

1. Where exactly is this piece manufactured? Not "we are manufacturers" — which workshop, in which country.
2. What is the lead time with freight included, and what happens if it slips? An ex-works date without the boat is not a date.
3. Who installs on site, and who is liable for installation damage? On imported projects it is not always the company that sold you the furniture.
4. Which fabric, with which certificates? Martindale cycles, stain finish, and certified flame retardancy if the venue requires it. Contract furniture with domestic fabric is expensive domestic furniture.

The calculation almost nobody runs before buying

When the dining room starts to look tired, the first quote requested is for new chairs. It is worth running the other number first, because on the great majority of a venue's chairs, stools and banquettes the frame is intact and the only thing spent is the fabric and the foam.

Recovering that same piece usually costs well under half of replacing it, and you keep the design, the seat height and the fit you already chose for the room — which on a fitted banquette or a bespoke terrace chair is not a small thing. The second saving is the calendar: reupholstery is scheduled from a workshop in Palma and carries neither production time nor freight.

When buying new is simply the right call:

• The frame moves, flexes or the joints have opened. A wobbling chair is not fixed by recovering it.
• The venue is changing concept and the current furniture no longer says what you want it to say.
• You need more covers than the current pieces allow, or the layout is changing.
• Outdoor furniture whose frame has gone with the salt, which on a seafront property happens sooner than people expect.

When it is a workshop job, not a factory job:

• Chairs and stools with sound frames and fabric gone at the arms or where backs rub.
• Fitted banquettes: they are upholstered over installed joinery, so replacing them means building work and recovering them does not.
• Lobby sofas and armchairs with a recognisable design, which replacing means losing.
• Bedroom headboards, made to measure either way: the only difference between remaking and buying is the price.
• Outdoor and poolside cushions, where the wear is in the fabric and almost never in the frame.

Recovering chairs, stools, banquettes and common-area sofas; headboards made to measure; and outdoor and poolside cushions in UV-stabilised fabrics. We work in batches so the venue never loses trading days, in contract fabrics of 25,000 Martindale cycles and up.

Frequently asked questions

Who manufactures hotel furniture in Mallorca? Makers with workshops on the island, such as Germans Adrover in Manacor and Expo Mobles in Manacor and Inca; Palma-based FF&E agents who source abroad and assemble here, such as ON HORECA; and mainland manufacturers shipping in, mostly outdoor furniture, such as Fiaka.

What is a realistic lead time? It depends on where it is made. An island workshop runs its own calendar; the mainland adds sea freight; Asia adds production, container and customs, which means months.

Is reupholstering cheaper than replacing? With a sound frame, usually well under half the cost, and with no shipping lead time. If the frame is beyond saving, we tell you before quoting.

Do you manufacture new furniture? No. We are an upholstery workshop: recovering, headboards to measure and outdoor cushions. For new furniture, go to a contract manufacturer.

What should the fabric be? 25,000 Martindale cycles or more, a stain-resistant finish, certified flame retardancy where required, and UV-protected outdoor fabric on terraces and by the pool.
